Judith Pishnery's newest project LOOK, SEE
I'm drawn to the every day, the common-place, the banality of places and things, those things that we all look at and see, even in passing, for a brief moment. I find solace and comfort in those things that affect our daily lives, yet are taken for granted. I look for moments and things when I photograph that create a sense of who I am, of who we are, of what makes each of our lives interesting, different and whole. I relish in the soft morning light, the mysterious twilight, the crisp light of a fast paced mid-day, the marvels of nature and man-made, the little details and many contrasts, the new and the old, the fleeting moments and the many textures of our world. Each photograph makes a subject into an object; each photograph is an aide-memoire, recalling an experience or memory from the individual viewer. Must a photograph always be exotic from far-away places; must it be monumental large over-scaled locations or prints; must it have deeper religious, political, social or personal implications; or must it even be about exposing or condemning someone or something? My thoughts are no, a photograph can be about the here and now or has been, an artifact of life, of a moment in time. I am hopefully following in the footsteps of Shore, Eggleston, Soth and others who have photographed the everyday people, places and things with an eye on the unique qualities of the ordinary.
This project currently consists of a selection of 25 random images (out of many more images) that make up a cross-section of the common-place. They have no particular relationship, nor must they be shown in any particular order. The images are printed on Epson Hot Press Bright, an archival matte fine art paper, sized to 8x8 or 10x10 inches, mounted on wood panels, sealed with an archival museum wax finish and displayed in a grid formation. The images may be sold individually, as pairs or the whole grouping. Individual photo-art panels will be priced around $100 each. The goal is for original, reasonably priced and sized art works to be available in a variety of configurations.
